The venue for the Intl. AEC/FM Hackathon will be TU Berlin’s Humboldthain Campus (Address: Gustav-Meyer-Allee 25, 13355 Berlin). The Intl. AEC/FM Hackathon and ISARC 2018 program is available for download.
Workshop selection for Intl. AEC/FM Hackathon (all workshops are SOLD OUT!):
Any participant must select among 1 of the available 6 workshop themes:
- Autodesk Dynamo: World-leading experts of Autodesk will introduce the latest developments of its standalone programming environment that lets engineers and designers create visual logic to explore parametric conceptual designs and automate tasks.
- Autodesk Forge: Autodesk will also introduce challenges on the latest developments of Forge, a powerful, cloud-based software platform of web service APIs that allow you to integrate Autodesk products (such as Fusion Team, BIM 360 Docs, etc.) into workflows and/or to embed some of the components used in those Autodesk products into your own web or mobile applications.
- Big Data Mining : This challenge will focus on learning from New York City open data including data of the years 2009-12017 from UBER and taxi car movements to improve NYC’s urban landscape. The challenge is sponsored by Arcadis, one of the worldwide leading design and engineering firms. Arcadis will introduce important questions for (re-)planning NYC from coastal defense to real estate issues.
- Construction Robotics: The Chair for Individualized Production (IP) in architecture of RWTH Aachen University in cooperation with Robots in Architecture showcases a parametric robot programming interface through Autodesk Dynamo. Allowing participants to directly feed commands to a robotic process. Demonstrating some of the potential for robotics in construction to mediate between design and execution. You will get to know some of the fundamentals of robotics through an exemplary process. Design driven fabrication is possible, your creativity is the limit for this robot process hacking workshop.
- Mixed Realities (AR/VR): The Chair of Computing in Engineering at Ruhr-University Bochum will introduce in a workshop AR/VR-related technologies make them physically available for hacking (incl. 2 HTC-Vive incl. eye-tracking, 1 Microsoft Hololens, and 1 Google Tango device, or bring your own AR/VR device). Applications are not limited, but may include construction workforce education and training, search and rescue operations in buildings, advanced immersive environments for user experiences in architecture and engineering.
- Remote Sensing & Internet of Things: Topcon will offer in its workshop concepts and physical access to a variety of sensors and its data, i.e. related to GNSS, drones/UAVs, machine guidance/control. Potential hackathon topics may focus on intelleigent use of hardware, software, or computational data processing techniques, e.g. linking sensor data with building or infrastructure information models.
Advantages for the participants of a Hackathon:
Connect with experts: We will have a selection of the top developers and industry professionals at the event.
Hands-on learning: To equip you with the skills to apply worfklows during the hackathon we have organized dedicated dev prep workshops free of charge.
Test out new technologies: We will have plenty of interesting new software and hardware solutions, robots, 3D printers, drones, AR/VR-glasses, which you can try out first hand.
Definition of “Hackathon” (in part adapted from Wikipedia):
A hackathon (also known as a hack day or weekend, hackfest or codefest) is a design sprint-like event in which computer programmers and others involved in hard- and software development, including engineers, architects, graphic designers, interface designers, project managers, and others, often including subject-matter-experts, collaborate intensively on protoype or research projects.
The goal of a hackathon is to create usable hard- or software. Hackathons tend to have a specific focus, which can include sensors, robots, or programming language used, the operating system, an application, an API, or the subject and the demographic group of the researchers and developers. In other cases, there is no restriction on the type of product being created.
World known subject matter experts from industry are often present during a hackathon to quikly assist or resolve upcoming questions.
A hackthon ends normally with an informal style of presentation of each team to everyone involved in the Hackathon. Awards will be given to outstanding work.
